Similar words
Medium-density fiberboard

A medium-density fiberboard made by mixing wood fibers with synthetic resin adhesive and hardening it under heat and pressure

It is an engineered wood board made by mixing finely ground wood fibers with synthetic resin adhesive and pressing them under high temperature and high pressure. Unlike solid wood, it has no wood grain or knots, so its surface is smooth and easy to process, making it widely used in furniture making. It tends to be weak against moisture and humidity.

Appearance

When viewed in cross section, unlike particle board (PB) where thick wood chips are visible, fine particles are uniformly and densely packed. The exterior has a smooth, pale tan color without wood grain.

Use

Because the surface is smooth, it is suitable for applying adhesive sheets, films, natural veneers, or paint coating. It is used in places that require precise curves or three-dimensional shaping, such as furniture doors, drawer fronts, tabletops, and moldings.

When choosing

You should check the eco-friendly material grade, which indicates the emission amount of formaldehyde released from the adhesive. For indoor furniture, E0 or E1 grade boards are mainly used, with the E0 grade having lower emissions.

Care

If exposed to water or moisture, it absorbs water, swells up, and does not return to its original shape, so moisture should be wiped off immediately. It should be used in dry indoor areas rather than in high-humidity bathrooms or outdoors.

Additional information

PB (Particle Board)
Unlike MDF, which is made by grinding wood into fine fibers, this board is made by clumping and compressing wood chips.
Plywood
A board made by shaving wood into thin veneers and bonding them in alternating, overlapping layers.
