What is the reason for the fork-shaped grooves along the edge of the ladle?
Seeing the comb-like grooves along the rim unlike a regular ladle, I wondered what purpose they serve when serving noodle dishes.
They act like a fork to catch the strands so they do not slip away when scooping noodles together with broth.
A fork ladle refers to a cooking utensil designed to scoop noodles and broth together by adding rake-shaped grooves to the rim of a soup ladle.
The stainless steel fork ladle of Sori Yanagi has fork-shaped grooves carved into its edge so that noodles catch easily[1]. Because there are grooves on the round ladle rim, noodle strands catch stably without slipping back into the broth when transferring ramen, noodles, or pasta from the pot to a bowl[2].
The length is 29.3cm and the width is 9.4cm[3]. With an ample length that reaches deep inside a pot and a wide ladle head, it is well suited for dishing out a moderate amount of noodles and broth at once.

The depth of the ladle head and the detailed spacing of the fork grooves have not yet been confirmed in official materials.
