Why does the Concord Sofa | Mix use different materials for the seat cushion and the backrest?
When choosing a sofa, people often hesitate between the coziness of fabric and the easy maintenance of leather. Seeing a configuration that uses both materials makes one curious about which material is placed on which part.
The seat cushions and back cushions, which come into contact with the body, are covered with removable and washable fabric, while the backrest that shapes the sofa is wrapped in combi leather with a cowhide texture.
The intended uses of the seating area and the outer frame are different. The Concord Sofa | Mix from BY HEYDEY places fabric on the seat cushions and back cushions where the body rests, and combi leather on the backrest that forms the outer contour [1].
The criterion for this division is maintenance. The cushions and back cushions that come into direct contact with skin are designed with removable covers so they can be washed separately [2]. Fabric is soft to the touch and convenient for shaking off everyday dirt through periodic washing.
The backrest that supports the shape of the sofa is firm. This area is wrapped in combi leather that reproduces the texture of semi-aniline cowhide [3]. Semi-aniline is a finishing method that preserves the natural touch of leather while adding a thin protective layer; replicating its texture on the faux leather surface helps maintain a neat shape and makes it easy to wipe away surface dirt.
The specific recommended washing method for the fabric cover (such as water washing temperature or whether dry cleaning is recommended) has not yet been confirmed in the official materials.
