What roles do the fabrics on the inside and outside of the umbrella case play respectively?

When carrying a wet umbrella on rainy days, there is concern that the car interior or clothes might get wet. I am curious about how the fabrics on the inside and outside of the case handle moisture.

hmmm editorial answer

The inside absorbs moisture and the outside opens up airflow, helping the interior dry well while preventing water from leaking outside the case.
