What kind of glass is the 'Fine Clear' mentioned in the glass cup descriptions?
When choosing Toyo Sasaki glassware, you often encounter the unfamiliar name 'Fine Clear' written in the materials section. It makes you wonder what kind of material it is and how it differs from regular glass.
Fine Clear is a proprietary soda-lime glass developed to enhance clarity and purity, used as the base material for all machine-made products.
Fine Clear means a flawless, clean, and clear transparency. Most glasses and tableware commonly used in daily life are made of soda-lime glass. They are sturdy and easy to handle, but depending on the raw material formulation, they can have a slight bluish tint or less clarity.
Toyo Sasaki addressed this point in 2006 by developing a new soda-lime glass called Fine Clear[1][2]. While maintaining the toughness of soda-lime glass, it raised the purity and clarity to create a sharper and clearer glass[3][4].
They replaced everything. Since its development, Toyo Sasaki has been producing all machine-made products using Fine Clear glass[5][6]. The Fine Clear noted in the descriptions of whiskey shot glasses or round deep plates indicates the base material applied to consistently deliver clear and clean transparency even in everyday tableware[7][8].

Whether the Fine Clear material is also used in handmade (not machine-made) glass products has not yet been confirmed in official materials.
