RECTORE-4

If I go to the RECTO Hannam-dong store, will I see many works by other artists besides clothes?

When looking at photos of the store, ceramics, photographs, and furniture catch my eye before clothes, confusing me as to what kind of space it is. Before going, I want to gauge what I will see.

hmmm editorial answer

Yes, from the ceramics at the entrance to photographs hanging on the walls and lacquered furniture, the RECTO store is placed alongside works by various artists.

It begins even before opening the door. What hangs in the exterior window is not finished furniture, but a mold used when making art furniture, showing the process leading up to the creation of a work first[1]. Once you step inside, you will encounter ceramic works by artist Gi-Ppeum Noh at the entrance[2]. The very concept RECTO gave this store is a 'modern gallery'[3].

Photographs sit side by side with the clothes. Photographs by photographer Jaehoon Kim are hung alongside collection pieces[4], works by Richard Avedon are on the walls, and works by Swedish artist Hans Gedda, known for his portraits, are positioned in the menswear section[5]. Looking down from the walls, this time it is furniture. The wooden furniture and objets finished with lacquer are works by artist Woo-Rim Kang, and by unifying the color, the entire space is tied together in the same tone[6]. The Hannam-dong New Flagship Store is a space recreated in collaboration with this artist Woo-Rim Kang[7], and it is also a name that was together from the time Baek-Seok Jeong arranged the space[8].

Nor was it a one-off approach. Illustrator Chul-Hwa Kwon left drawings in light purple paint, and the flower decorations passed through the hands of VMD Ina Hwang[9].

hmmm, rather than decorations added beside clothes, these names make up the very place where the clothes are situated. While the genres vary each time—from ceramics, photography, furniture, to drawing—the point that the space is not completed alone is repeated in the same place.
