What kind of processing is the 'Broken Effect' mentioned in the leather description?

I came across an unfamiliar processing term while reading the leather cushion description. I am asking this question to judge what state the leather surface is actually in.

NOIR CUSHION | Leather
hmmm editorial answer

It is a processing method where an oil-based wax is applied to the leather so that a naturally cracked-like grain stands out distinctly on the surface.

Generally, when oil or wax is applied to the surface of leather, unique patterns that look finely cracked are created as the wax layer shifts when pressure is applied or the grain is pulled.

The leather selected in the MASTROTTO VINTAGE option of the NOIR CUSHION is 0.8 to 1.0mm thick and undergoes Broken Effect processing using an oil-based wax[1]. Instead of artificially covering the surface evenly, it is a finish that adds wax to visually reveal cracked-like grain clearly[2]. As it is touched by hands, subjected to pressure, and used more, the wax components break in, and a texture carrying traces of time naturally appears on the surface.
