It's a skirt that tightens at the waist with a drawstring, so how should I interpret the waist measurements on the size chart?
Since it is an adjustable-waist garment, but a separate waist number is listed for each size, it is difficult to judge whether I should match that number against my own waist measurement.
Because the waist is adjusted with a drawstring and elastic banding, the waist numbers on the chart should be viewed not as fixed circumferences, but as a standard to gauge differences between sizes.
The waist of this skirt conforms to the body in two ways. The front is tightened as much as desired by pulling the drawstring, and the back is finished with elastic banding[1].
Even so, the size chart lists separate waist measurements of S 37cm, M 39cm, and L 41cm[2]. Such measurements are usually taken flat across one side, and because a waist with elastic stretches, the circumference it actually accommodates is more generous than the listed value. However, it has not yet been clarified whether these numbers were measured in an uncinched state or at the tightest setting.
On the other hand, what clearly differs depending on the size is the length. It gets progressively longer, with S at 58.9cm, M at 60.9cm, and L at 62.9cm[3], and where the midi-length drape falling below the calves ends changes accordingly[4]. In the fit photos, both CARLA (178cm) and YUZUHA (175cm) wore size M[5][6].
hmmm, in a garment with an adjustable waist, the size number is closer to a guide for choosing how far down you want the skirt to fall, rather than a ruler to measure if it fits your body.
