What role does the shape of a flared rim play when drinking?

The place where your lips meet this glass is the very top rim. Kimura Glass's Bero TL has thin glass walls that rise straight up and then gently flare outward at the edge^[2]. Unlike ordinary cups with straight rims, the edge opens outward so that the thickness of the glass does not stand out when it touches the lips.

The shape changes the way the beverage flows in. When the edge is flared outward, the beverage passes smoothly along the lip line without having to tilt the glass steeply. Rather than pouring onto the center of the tongue all at once, the liquid spreads evenly throughout the entire mouth, making it well-suited for calmly savoring the beverage's inherent taste and aroma.

It is lightweight. This glass is made of clear, light lead-free crystal^[3]. Measuring 8.5cm in diameter and 11.1cm in height, it weighs a mere 81g, so even when holding a generous volume of 370ml, it feels less burdensome in hand^[4][5]. The thin thickness paired with the slightly outward-flared opening makes the drinking experience even more refreshing.
