What is the reason for having a pointed spout on the edge of the matcha bowl?
While general matcha bowls have a round bowl shape, people sometimes wonder about its use after seeing the appearance of a spout protruding on one side.
It is a design that helps you whisk a generous portion of matcha in the bowl and then evenly pour and divide it into other tea cups without spilling.
Kyusu refers to a teapot used when brewing tea leaves and pouring them into tea cups. Generally, a single-cup portion of matcha is whisked in a round bowl and consumed directly from the vessel. In contrast, the spout-equipped tea bowl of Ippodo Tea helps you whisk several cups of matcha at once like a teapot and divide and serve them without spilling[1].
It is generously sized. With a diameter of 13.0cm and a height of 9.0cm, the inside of the bowl is spacious, making it easy to froth with a tea whisk[2]. A TEA CLOTH is also included so that you can wipe away moisture that gets on the edges of the tea cups or bowl while serving tea[3].
It is crafted from MINO-YAKI, ceramics from Gifu Prefecture, Japan[4]. Depending on where the bowl is placed inside the kiln and the flow of the flames reaching it, unique textures form during the firing process, revealing slightly different appearances for each tea bowl[5].

The full water capacity of the tea bowl and the maximum number of cups that can be prepared at once have not yet been confirmed in official materials.
