Will the dishes get stained if I put dark-colored foods like coffee or curry in them?

Looking at the uniquely matte and rough surface of ceramic tableware, one might worry whether stains will remain after holding food. It makes you want to know whether frequently consumed coffee or seasonings will seep into the dishes.

hmmm editorial answer

Unglazed surfaces can absorb dark pigments, so after emptying the food, you should wash them with a soft sponge and neutral detergent, and let them dry.

When encountering HASAMI PORCELAIN tableware, the first thing that stands out is the matte texture that reveals the raw nature of the clay. In particular, the Natural color option is unglazed on the exterior, making the surface grain feel slightly rougher^[1]. In general, unglazed ceramics without an outer glaze lack a smooth coating layer, making it easy for food pigments or oils to seep into microscopic gaps.

Indeed, as the brand notes in its tumbler instructions, holding strongly colored foods like turmeric or red pepper paste can cause the surface to stain^[2]. If it comes into contact with dark coffee or sauce, it is safer to wash it immediately without leaving it sitting for a long time after emptying it. When washing dishes, as guided for the tumbler, use a neutral detergent and a soft sponge that does not scratch the surface^[3], and after washing, dry it thoroughly so that moisture completely evaporates before storing^[4].
