Is there a reason different fillings are filled in each part of the jacket?
In the product description, the filling composition for the body and the sides is written differently, which sometimes makes one wonder why it was divided like this.
It is a construction where goose down is concentrated on the torso and arms, which must maintain body temperature, while synthetic fiber is blended in for the side seams and hood, where sweat easily accumulates, to withstand moisture.
FEATHERDOWN's HD SHIELD® JACKET is filled with different fillings by area. The body, back, and arms are filled with 800FP POLISH GOOSE DOWN at a ratio of 90% down and 10% feathers[1], and ECO PLUMPING DOWN, a blend of 50% polyester and 50% goose down, is applied to the sides and part of the hood[2].
The reason for dividing the areas like this is sweat. Natural goose down traps a generous layer of air, making it light and warm, but when it holds moisture, the down clumps together, making it easy for its lofting power to decrease. On the other hand, a filling blended with half polyester, a synthetic fiber, has the property of retaining volume without easily losing its loft even when exposed to moisture.
The brand viewed the side seams and part of the hood, where heat and sweat easily build up during activity, as areas vulnerable to sweat, and arranged this blended filling there[3]. The body panels that face wind and cold aim for thermal insulation with goose down, while the parts prone to getting wet with sweat have supplemented durability so that the clothing does not collapse during activity.
The specific weight or ratio that each of the two fillings accounts for in the overall jacket has not yet been confirmed.
