AMOMENTOAM-30

What kind of fiber is 'ramie', which is listed in the linen jacket material?

Although the product name is linen jacket, ramie—an unfamiliar material—is listed alongside linen in the blend ratio, which may make you wonder about its characteristics.

Linen Pocket Jacket, Brown
hmmm editorial answer

Ramie is a natural bast fiber obtained from the ramie plant, and because its texture is stiffer and tougher than linen, it is a material that firmly holds the garment's shape and increases breathability.

AMOMENTO's Linen Pocket Jacket is composed of 50% cotton along with 25% linen and 25% ramie split evenly in the outer shell[1].

Although only linen is in the name, two bast fibers with different properties are actually included in equal proportions. Generally, both linen and ramie are natural fibers obtained from plant stems, but ramie, commonly known as ramie (mosi), has thicker and stiffer fibers than linen, adding stiff strength and a cool grain to the fabric. Adding ramie's elasticity to linen's natural texture essentially supports the jacket's silhouette so it does not lose its shape.

The blend structure, where the remaining half is filled with cotton, also complements the weaknesses of bast fibers. Clothes woven solely from bast materials are cool, but the touch against the skin is stiff and wrinkles easily remain; weaving soft cotton together reduces the rough feeling against the skin and balances it for comfortable wear.
